Honestly I had to learn the hard way how to properly weight myself, I got certified in a tropical area so we didn't use wetsuits and I had 8 lbs then. I went to colder water with a 7 mm and thought 12 lbs would be enough. I knew I was light cause I released all the air in my BCD and still couldn't sink so I used the free dive technique to go down head first to 30 ft... I'm pretty athletic so coming back to the 15 ft safety stop wasn't impossible but it was still pretty hard. That's how I learned that I needed more weight for 7 mm suits😂

Glad it worked out in the end for you. In the UK, there are no charges for healthcare, unless you choose to go private for certain procedures - private healthcare is normally just routine procedures or aftercare, and to my knowledge, does not cover any emergency medicine. Health Insurance isn't much of a thing here in the UK as it is in the US for obvious reasons, and is primarily bought by people who travel abroad as it is often a requirement to enter foreign countries. That being said, you can still get it - to cover private healthcare costs, or to pay out when ill or to cover costs arising out of illness.

Not a pleasant topic but glad to have this knowledge. I involuntarily coughed when inhaling water on a AS drill in the pool and it really made me think about a similar thing happening at depth, including while vomiting. Always best to not have to problem solve in the moment!

This is just what I have been looking for. Thank You. I do tons of snorkeling during scallop season. When things are fantastic I use a hookah system. Typically we are working 4 to 7 foot of water. This is when we want to stay at 2.5' to 5.5' under the surface and just move and pick up our dinner.

Great points. Always good to hear these things again & again over the years. Diving for 52 years. How things have changed and some never do. I do agree with conserving energy/gas but sometimes it is just fun to explore with your partner and actually kick those fins other than a frog kick. I find it frustrating to surface with 800 PSI. My recreational diving trips often include new buddies every dive. Many seem to wander off on their own from the group. Enjoyed this article on safety stops. Good divers always try to be better.
